The second edition of the annual Glenelly Friends & Family tasting in Brussels took place on the 29th November at the Galerie La Forest Divonne. The stunning venue is managed by Jean de Malherbe, husband of Marie, one of May de Lencquesaing’s granddaughters. The current exhibition, ‘Kaleidoscope’, featured up-and-coming young contemporary artists. The turnout was even better than the previous year, with nearly 150 guests, who got to sample our wines complemented by tasty canapés and cheese platters.
A touch of fun was added by offering a blind tasting, where guests had to pick which one was the Glenelly wine in 3 flights of 2 wines. The wines poured next to the Glenellys were all of similar quality, from top French appellations, and generally much more expensive. Out of 90 participants, only one person got the 3 wines and grape variety correctly, and won a magnum of the wonderful Estate Reserve 2011.
In the words of well-respected wine critics Tim Atkin MW and Neil Martin (Robert Parker), South Africa is one of the most exciting wine regions in the Word. Glenelly is at the forefront of this new wave of quality producers and it is time for wine lovers to change their perception and open their minds to new horizons
