Shiraz 2010
The Glass collection Shiraz displays a bright rich vibrant colour. The wine yields a complex nose of rich floral tones with a white pepper and spicy plum background. There is a tremendous concentration of complex fruits and a wonderful dense, velvety structure.
Weather Conditions – Simonsberg, Stellenbosch
- Cool Winter ensured a good bud burst, it was 9 days early.
- Cool conditions during berry set lead to loose bunches.
- Berry size was smaller than other years.
- December was characterized by a warm and dry climate.
- Good analyses was achieved especially PH.
- Good wine quality.
Winemaking
The bunches were sorted and placed whole into the tank, there was a small percentage which were destemmed and crushed. The tanks were allowed to slowly start to naturally ferment, two to three pumpovers a day took place. Post fermentation they were given three weeks extended skin contact before been taken down to French oak barrels for malo lactic fermentation. The wine stayed in barrel for twelve months.
