The 1st Sensory Experience for the Glenelly Wine Club

The Glenelly Wine Club was created for those who share our passion for the art of making fine wines and enjoying it with family and friends. Guests are not only rewarded with generous discounts on wine and gift options, but also form part of our Food and Wine Pairing Dinners.

The first of a few exclusive food and wine pairing dinners was hosted on 5 April 2018. Guests were treated to a three-course meal prepared by French Chef, Christophe Dehosse from The Vine Bistro.

During the evening the tasting room staff presented each of the wines, sharing its unique characteristics.  Chef Christophe then highlighted the elements of the dishes that lend themselves to perfect pairings with the respective wines.

To start the evening Silver Fish Rillette, Pickled watermelon, Homemade taramasalata and Mussel and octopus ceviche were selected to pair with Glenelly’s Grand Vin Chardonnay 2013 and Estate Reserve Chardonnay 2016.

For the main course Braised Karoo Lamb and traditional pofadder (also known as skilpadjies), dauphinoise potatoes, vegetable jardinière and thyme jus were paired with Glenelly’s Estate Reserve Red Blend 2012 and our flagship wine, Lady May 2012.

The Spice poached Adam fig, baby leaf salad and Dalewood Boland curls paired with the Glass Collection Syrah 2010 was the most surprising pairing. This bold and slightly astringent wine softened beautifully when it was enjoyed with the final course.

In the words of The Witty Wine Woman; “Delightful and informative. I thoroughly enjoyed the interactive experience with the chef and wine tasting staff. It provided an immersive experience.”
