Celebrating a Century of Life

I have always been convinced that the terroir of Stellenbosch could produce world-class wines, most notably with Cabernet Sauvignon-led blends, and this is what we have aimed to do with our flagship wine, the Lady May.

In celebration of my 100th birthday, I raise this glass of the Lady May 2020 to you all – a wine which I hope will give you a sense of place, balance and elegance and fill your hearts with joy!

"The latest in a series of brilliant Lady Mays, the 2020 release is an assemblage of Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. Curated in 70% new wood, it's a bold, structured wine that wouldn't look out of place in Pauillac, with aromas of liquorice and five spice, remarkable density and palate weight, top notes of coffee bean and cedarwood and a core of inky black cherry, plum and cassis fruit. 96 Points "

"A full-bodied, creamy and polished red blend that exudes notes of chocolate, blackcurrants, mint, cedar and hints of graphite. Broad and textural with ripe and firm tannins. Excellent focus. Drink after 2025. 94 Points"

"The 2020 Lady May includes the lowest percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon (59%) thus far. Aged for 24 months in 30-40% new French oak for the first year and 70% for the second, it has a detailed, complex nose of black fruit laced with cedar, black olive and a faint touch of liquorice. The palate is medium-bodied with a finely structured entry. It's quite spicy compared to previous vintages, with impressive body and density and firm grip on the finish. Give this three or four years in bottle once released- it will mature with class. 93 Points"
